Recreation & Sports Ministry

The Recreation Ministry operates the Christian Life Center (CLC) and coordinates all recreational activities within the church. The CLC is a family fitness center complete with a full-size basketball court, an aerobics room, an exercise and wellness room, a theater room-“The Zone” and a kitchen facility. The CLC serves as the central facility for many of FBCD's onsite activities and events.

The purpose of the Recreation Ministry is to provide opportunities in which our members and their guests may participate in meaningful, leisurely activities in a Christian setting with quality and dedicated leadership. Through our Recreation Ministry, we seek to lead participants into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.  We pray that God will bless you through your involvement in one or more of our programs and that He will inspire you to become His servant in the Sports and Recreation ministry.

Day Camp
Day Camp is a summer camp that is offered daily to all children who are currently enrolled in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade for the 2007-08 school year.  It will kick off on June 9th and last until August 15th every Monday-Friday from 7:30AM-5:30PM.  During this time the kids will experience such activities as group sports and games, visiting city parks, swimming, Civic Center Theater plays, crafts, daily devotionals and Friday Fun Days all over the Metroplex!  Cost is $115 for the first child and $100 for each additional child.  Unfortunately, we do not have scholarships available for this summer.  You may stop by the Christian Life Center at any time Monday-Saturday from 9am-9pm and register your child.  If you have any questions that aren’t answered here, please call Alecia Dockery at 940-382-6122 and she will be more than happy to assist you.

Upward is an evangelistic sports ministry specifically designed for K5 through sixth grade boys and girls that promotes salvation, character, and self-esteem in every child. In addition to basketball, Upward offers cheerleading, soccer and flag football programs to complete your Upward ministry. Upward provides opportunities for all believers, no matter what denomination, to become meaningfully involved in the ministries of your church. They will have the opportunity to pray for your program, coach a team, referee a game, share a devotional, and develop relationships in order to open avenues of ministry to the people of your community who will participate in your program. 

Upward Soccer  This is a league designed for all 4 year olds through 3rd graders who would like to come and grow as a soccer athlete and learn more about Christ throughout the season.  It makes for an exciting summer event and a chance to grow as a family when you come to cheer on your athlete. 
We also run an Upward Basketball and Cheerleading Season in the Fall.  It is designed for all Kindergarten through 6th graders.  It tends to be our larger sports program of the two.  Registration will start early Fall, so make sure to check back for dates so that you can sign your child up to be a part!

Beat the Staff Golf Tournament

Sunday, August 24, at 2:30 P.M. with a shot gun start. The tournament will be played at The Golf Club at Fossil Creek in Fort Worth. The cost is $60 per player and includes green fee, cart fee, GPS, driving range, a hamburger dinner buffet for after the tournament, and an awards ceremony where prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place overall finishers, winner of the longest drive hole, winner of the closest to the pin hole, and anyone who beats the church staff team.

The format will be a 4 person scramble. You may form your own team or you may sign up as a single and be placed on a team with a spot available. You may sign up in the Christian Life Center. Deadline for sign up is Wednesday, August 13. For more info. contact Brad Cockrell at 940-382-6122.

Painting
Every Wednesday at 8AM the craft room is open in the CLC and people gather to paint and work on various art projects that they might have going.  If you are an art enthusiast, please feel free to come spend some time working on a piece that you might have going and build relationships with fellow Christian artists.  We would love for you to come and be a part of this ministry as we see it vital to not only keep healthy bodies, but healthy minds as well.

Work Break
We offer an open gym time for all adults 25 and older who currently work 40+ hours a week every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11AM-2PM.  The cost is $3.00 daily, $30.00 a month or $150.00 (church member) / $200.00 (non-church member) a year.  The gym is reserved for Work Break Participants only during this time and allows you to be a part of the basketball games, work out in the weight room, and provides you with a jersey and towel.  It is just a nice time to come and get away from the stresses of work and just fellowship together through basketball.

Family Fun Nights are intended for us as a church family to, not only grow within our homes through immediate fellowship, but to also grow as a church family body through corporate fellowship.  We will have various activities going on this summer that we would love for you to come be a part of.  Some dates to be looking for are:

  • Sunday, July 13th from 7:30PM-9:30PM at Denton Water Works Park-we will have the entire park to ourselves for the evening.  Cost is $5/person (all ages) or $20.00 family max, unless if you have a season pass, then you will have free admission.  Your cost will allow you complete freedom in the facilities to all rides and pools during that time. 
  • Sunday, August 3rd from 4PM-8PM at Isle Du Bois at Lake Ray Roberts.  Cost is admission to the park at the gate.  The entire area is ours to just hang out and play games and fellowship together.
